Variables

Salient provides access to a wide array of weather variables for various applications. The available meteorological variables vary based on the model, timescale, and derivation.

• Natively forecasted variables are direct outputs of the forecast model.
  • Examples of natively forecasted variables from Salient GemAI are Minimum Daily Temperature, Maximum Daily Temperature, and Daily Cumulative Precipitation
  • Examples of natively forecasted variables from Salient Blend are Weekly Average Temperature and Weekly Average Precipitation
• Downscaled variables are generated using historical analogs or past years with similar conditions.
  • Examples of Salient Blend downscaled variables are Minimum Temperature and Maximum Temperature
• Derived variables are calculated from natively forecasted variables using a formula.
  • Examples of Salient GemAI derived variables are: average temperature, HDD, CDD, wind chill and heat index
