Salient offers our hindcast catalog for GEM and Blend on Cloudflare. The GEM real time forecast is also available on Cloudflare. These enable direct read access to the source datasets in the Zarr format for efficient evaluation of forecast performance.

Access to the dataset is granted via S3-compatible APIs, with examples provided by Salient to get you up and running as fast as possible rather than calling the API to access years of hindcast data.

Salient GEM Forecasts

• Real time forecasts
• Hindcast period daily from 2020-10-16 to present
  • Forecasts are not available for a small subset of dates (2021-10-04, 2023-05-23, and 2023-05-24) due to missing published data from governmental weather data providers that serve as an input to the GEM model
• Spatial coverage of the North America region
• Native forecast variables include: cloud cover, 500mb height, mean sea level pressure, precipitation, relative humidity, minimum daily temperature, maximum daily temperature, total solar irradiance, maximum 10m wind gust, wind speed at 10m, wind speed at 100m
• Derived forecast variables include: heating degree days, cooling degree days, average daily temperature, heat index, and wind chill.

Salient v9 Forecasts

• Hindcast period from 2000-01-05 to 2025-01-31
  • The number of forecasts vary by temporal resolution, with daily initializations starting in 2024 for the sub-seasonal forecasts. The seasonal forecasts are initialized weekly on Wednesdays, and the long-range forecasts are initialized on the 15th of each month.
• Forecasts at their native resolution as: weekly for sub-seasonal, monthly for seasonal, and quarterly for long-range
